Inspection Summary:
On October 8, 2019 WSRO staff conducted an unannounced reconnaissance inspection of the subject facility operations.
WSRO staff was unaccompanied on the inspection. This inspection was specific to NCDOT Project No. U-2579B - Future
1-74 outer loop, from intersection with Business 40 and Hwy 158. The inspection was conducted following conversations with
NCDOT subcontractors. There was some confusion as to if land application would occur under this permit or if 100% of the
residuals generated would be collected and disposed of through another permitted means. No land application or activities
related to the subject permit occurred during the inspection. Below is a summary of notes from the inspection.
- DGS operations were taking place on the section of interstate near Weston Brooke Trail at the time of the inspection.
- No DGS land application or storage activities were observed at the time of inspection.
- Shamrock Environmental Corp. was present at the time of inspection. Shamrock was utilizing a vacuum system to load
slurry residuals into tanker trucks.
- Reportedly all residuals produced for this project are to be loaded by Shamrock and taken to the Shamrock treatment
facility for final treatment and disposal. Residuals solids produced from the Shamrock treatment facility will reportedly be
hauled to a permitted landfill for final disposal.
