The property is owned by Harris Sales Corporation. The landowner hired Bob Mazur to act as the consulting forester for this tract. The timber was sold during late winter/early spring of 1998. Stacy Overman of Canal Wood bought the timber, and Cotton Herring was the logger. The violation pertains to an inadequate buffer left along the stream. The buffer ranges from only 5-15 feet wide, with selective harvesting occurring throughout the buffer and up to the stream bank. There is not a 30 foot wide buffer present, which is required by the Neuse River Rule. There is no visible sediment reaching the stream. The stream on this area begins as a drainage on the western side of the tract. This drainage runs for approximately 400-500' into the tract before becoming an intermittent stream. Soon after the drainage becomes a perennial stream, prior to flowing off of the property. According to our estimate, approximately 2/3 of the length of the stream on this property is considered intermittent or perennial. A buffer was left along the entire length of the stream. However, the buffer width is not adequate according to the Neuse River Rule. Listed below are the names and addresses of the people involved with this tract.
