Aid No: Funding: X State Federal Federal Permit(s): X Yes No Permit Type(s): Not specified in review request Project Description: Replace Bridge No. 143 on SR 1442 (Dave Winston Road) over Johnston Creek off -site detour planned, assume no improvements). SUMMARY OF HISTORIC ARCHITECTURE AND LANDSCAPES REVIEW DESCRIPTION OF RE VIEWACTIVITIES, RESULTS, AND CONCLUSIONS: HPOWeb reviewed on 22 March 2017 and yielded no NR, SL, LD, DE, or SS properties in the Area of Potential Effects (APE). Granville County current GIS mapping, aerial photography, and tax information indicated a mostly wooded APE with two late-twentieth/early-twenty-first-century residential resources (viewed 22 March 2017). The northwestern section of the APE intersects a large predominantly wooded parcel on which stand several buildings approximately 2200 feet north of the existing bridge, well beyond likely project impact. Constructed in 1960, Bridge No. 143 is not eligible for the National Register according to the NCDOT Historic Bridge Survey as it is neither aesthetically nor technologically significant. Google Maps "Street View" confirmed the absence of critical architectural and landscape resources in the APE (viewed 22 March 2017). No architectural survey is required for the project as currently defined. WHY THE AVAILABLE INFORMATION PROVIDES A RELIABLE BASIS FOR REASONABLY PREDICTING THAT THERE ARE NO UNIDENTIFIED SIGNIFICANT HISTORIC ARCHITECTURAL OR LANDSCAPE RESOURCES IN THE PROJECTAREA: APE extends 800 feet from either end of the existing bridge (NE -SW) and 200 feet to either side of the SR 1442 (Dave Winston Road) centerline (SE -NW) to encompass proposed construction activities. The comprehensive county architectural survey (1985) and related publication, as well as later studies record no resources in the APE (Marvin A. Brown and Andrew J. Carlson, Heritage and Homesteads - The History and Architecture of Granville County, North Carolina (Oxford, NC: The Granville Historical Society, Inc., 1988)). County GIS and other visuals illustrate the absence of significant architectural and landscape resources in the APE. No National Register -listed properties are located within the APE. Should the design of the project change, please notify NCDOT Historic Architecture as additional review may be necessary.
