Re: Borek Property; Neuse River Buffer Determination
Dear Mr. Borek:
At your request, I made a site visit your property on Valley Lake Drive near Lynn
Road in Raleigh, NC on July 16, 1998. The purpose of the site visit was to determine
presence of any intermittent or perennial stream that would be subject to the Neuse River
Buffer Rules requiring a 50 foot wide vegetated buffer along its banks.
An unnamed intermittent stream flows from southwest to northeast through the
property line. Since there is existing forest vegetation along this stream the Neuse River
Buffer Rules in effect today require a 50 foot wide buffer on both sides of the stream
channel. There is also a small (less than 0.1 acre) area of jurisdictional wetlands on the
west side of the stream at the base of a very large oak.
I have enclosed a copy of the current Neuse River Buffer Rules that require a 50
foot wide vegetated buffer along intermittent and perennial streams with existing forest
vegetation within the Neuse River Basin. If you have any questions concerning this
determination please feel free to contact me 733-1786.
Sincerely,
Peter Colwell
