I have reviewed the plans associated with the 401 WQC for the Mebane Bypass and the Erosion and Sediment Control plans. The streambank reforestation hatching is not clear on the approved plans. DWR does not object to the riprap remaining in place as stated in your recommendations below, provided that Roadside Environmental is fine with this modification, and as long as there aren't specific mitigation requirements. I'd also like to ensure that the floodplain benches are constructed according to the plans. Please let me know if you have any question. The plan sheet is EC-40A/Constl0; it was permit site 7 (triple barrel culvert). The plan sheet that was attached is difficult to view. Could you please provide me with the permit drawing sheet number and site number? After a quick overview, it seems as though it will be fine for the riprap to remain in place; however, I'll have to take a look at the plan sheets and/or mitigation plans to confirm . Send all suspicious email as an attachment to report.spam@nc.gov Hi April, Project C203844 (119) have noticed they have installed riprap where reforestation is suppose to go on the embankment at culvert 7. This is one of the site we looked at during your last visit. The plans call for reforestation along the embankments of this culvert to start 4 feet from the stream's bed (see hatchet marks on the plan sheet). If you look at the photo, they have gone above the 4' with riprap on the right inlet side of the culvert. The left inlet side has applicable space and so does the outlet side, however, the question arose: would they need to remove the riprap and install the plant as per the reforestation details or could they keep the embankment's riprap and find other suitable areas along the embankment for reforestation? My suggestion is to keep the existing riprap in place due to the flooding issues and how high the water gets up in this section and use the surrounding disturbed areas (around the existing embankment) to makeup for the plants required to accommodate the 0.3 acres. I have not had this issue before and I was asked to get your feedback on how to approach a fix. Please review, if you have questions for clarification, feel free to give me a call.
