Annual Avg Daily Traffic (veh/hr/day): Design/Future: 12,300 Year: 2040 Existing: 10,000 Year: 2020 General Project Narrative: • Burying box culverts and circular cross pipes at jurisdictional streams. Pipe burial allows for wildlife passage and helps minimize channel erosion at inlet and outlet of the (Description of Minimization of Water pipes. Quality Impacts) • Bank stabilization used at culvert inlets and outlets to help minimize erosion. • Use of low flow sills set at stream bed elevation in box culverts. • Culvert barrels with sills will be back filled with native material or class A rip rap to sill height. Native material will consist of material that is excavated from the stream bed or floodplain at the project site during culvert construction. Native material is subject to approval by the engineer. Class A rip rap may be used to supplement the native material. If rip rap is used, native material should be placed on top to fill voids and provide a flat surface for animal passage. • Maintaining existing drainage patterns to best extent practical. • Use of grass swales when discharging into buffered streams. • Construction phasing and traffic control considerations when laying out new culverts in order to reduce construction time. • Existing culverts replaced in many locations to meet current guidelines and requirements. This should help reduce velocities at culvert outlets. • Minimized directly connected impervious surfaces where possible. Runoff from road collected in storm system was directed to drain through grassed ditches/swales where possible prior to outfall connection.
