Over the winter of 2018-2019 Albemarle and the surrounding areas have had extreme amounts of rainfall. The City of Albemarle Long Creek WWTP has certainly felt the effects of this as well. These heavy rains, and inflow & infiltration associated with these events have been detrimental to the treatment process. During the above mentioned events, the biomass was lost. This loss is detrimental to the nitrification process, BOD removal, and poor settling. The restoration of the mixed liquor suspended solids has been extremely slow due to low influent BOD concentrations.
