DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT Location of Proiect The proposed Wastewater Improvements project is located within and to the southeast of the City of Claremont in Catawba County. The project will include approximately 11,000 linear feet of 24-inch gravity sewer with 5-foot diameter precast concrete manholes. The majority of the work will take place within private utility easements. A vicinity map has been included, which shows the general project location in Catawba County. Wastewater Improvements 1 Claremont, NC September 2019 TYPE OF DEVELOPMENT Collection System The installation of the City's sanitary sewer outfall to serve the City of Claremont will install gravity sewer and manholes from the City's existing McLin WWTP to a metering station designated as Point A. The following major items will be installed as part of the scope for this project: ■—10,000 LF of 8-inch gravity sewer; ■ 5-Foot diameter precast concrete sewer manholes; ■ 1 Metering manhole; ■ 1 Connection of new 24-inch gravity sewer to an existing sewer manhole just before WWTP; ■ Associated appurtenances and site work; Improvements requiring permit approval will include the installation of the new 24-inch gravity sewer lines to convey wastewater from the City's existing sanitary sewer collection system. The project with only convey flow within the project area. The sewer generated will be normal domestic waste from the City of Claremont. Calculations were performed to confirm the size of the gravity line installed based upon standard flows derived from population projections and current wastewater flows. The City of Claremont has an interlocal agreement with the City of Hickory to accept and treat Claremont's wastewater initially up to 450,000 gpd and the ability to increase capacity in increments up to a total volume of 800,000 gpd. Treatment Wastewater collected from the City of Claremont's sewer collection system is conveyed through an existing gravity collection and sewer force main network to the City of Claremont's McLin WWTP. The project will then collect wastewater at the most downstream manhole just before entering the WWTP and then convey the wastewater to Point A. At Point A, the City of Hickory will be installing a new 24-inch gravity sewer that will continue to convey the wastewater from the City of Claremont to the City of Hickory's Catawba WWTP. The Catawba WWTP has sufficient capacity to accept the wastewater from the City of Claremont.
