NC0005274, is a major permit which is on the NPDES backlog list. It was an OCPSF facility but now it is a Brownfield site and the plant is closed down. No process wastewaters have been discharged from the facility for several years. Some stormwater was discharged and tested last year and the Stormwater Unit concluded that a permit was not necessary as long as no industrial activities took place at the site. Four vats containing diluted wastewaters holding approximately 200,000 gallons, total, remain at the site. Mr. Stephen Timm the facility's consultant from Safety Training and Environmental Services has been in contact with DWQ while trying to assess disposal options. On March 21, 2011 he called to inform NPDES that the facility was going to persue disposing of the wastewaters via the City of Lowell's WWTP. After they have successfully discharged the wastewaters to the City they will request that their permit be recinded. According to Mr. Timm this should occurr around the end of the summer. Julie A.
