Certification for the Proposed Replacement of Bridge No. 79 on NC 9 over the Broad
River in Buncombe County; TIP BR-0009, Division 13, Debit $240 from VMS Element

Dear Ms. Beckwith:
The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) proposes to replace bridge number 79 on NC
9 over the Broad River in Buncombe County with a single span, 65 feet long, cored slab bridge on the
current alignment with a temporary bridge to the north of the existing bridge to be utilized as an onsite
detour during construction. This action will result in no permanent impacts but there will be 0.01 acre of
temporary impacts to surface waters from temporary construction impacts.
Please see enclosed copies of the Pre -Construction Notification (PCN), Stormwater Management Plan, and
Permit Drawings. A Minimum Criteria Determination Checklist (MCDC) was completed in February 2019
and distributed shortly thereafter. Additional copies are available upon request.
This project calls for a letting date of April 21, 2020 and a review date March 3, 2020.
