GGCC understands the Corps, DWR, and WRC have no objection to GGCC moving forward at this time with removal of the superstructure of seven pedestrian bridges and of the driven pilings associated therewith from within the project area, including possible work during the October 15 — December 31 timeframe, so long as all work is performed from land and we monitor turbidity in the lake upstream and downstream of each bridge removal location. No work associated with bridge removal shall be performed from in the water. Should an increase in turbidity be observed as a result of the bridge removal activities, we understand that the work shall stop upon discovery of the increased turbidity. Work may resume once a turbidity control measure is implemented. GGCC proposes the following turbidity control measure to be implemented if bridge and pier removal results in increased turbidity. The proposed measure consists of a short -span turbidity curtain (TC) that is anchored to land on either end of the particular bridge being removed and the curtain is then lowered into the water and allowed to rest on the lakebed. The TC will be deployed in such a position as to capture and retain suspended sediments close to the source of the sediment plume to minimize the areal extent of increased turbidity in the lake. It is our understanding is that this type of TC can be deployed from land without any equipment in the water. If GGCC's understanding is incorrect or the proposed turbidity control measure is not acceptable, please let me know right away.
