Annual Avg Daily Traffic (veh/hr/day): Design/Future: 90 Year: 2016 Existing: 90 Year: 2016 General Project Narrative: (Description of Minimization of Water Quality Impacts) Project involves the emergency replacement of Bridge #010120 over Spring Creek on Herman Rd (SR 1121) in Alexander County, NC west of Taylorsville. Proposed 60' long by 33' wide (24" Cored Slab Unit) single -span bridge to replace previously existing 31' long by 22' wide (Timber deck on 1-beams) single -span bridge that washed out in an unusually large storm event on the weekend of 6/8/2019. Following the storm, NCDOT maintenance forces removed remnants of the bridge. The road is closed to traffic until construction of the proposed bridge is complete. Runoff from the previously existing bridge discharged directly into the creek; however, the proposed bridge will have no direct discharge into the creek. No deck drains will be required. Stormwater runoff from the proposed bridge is to flow to two traffic bearing grated inlets at the south approach where they will be diffused with riprap pads at the proposed pipe outlets. All proposed stormwater runoff is discharged as far away from the stream and at the lowest velocities as practicable. The streambank under the north side of the bridge washed out when the bridge failed and is proposed to be restored and lined with Class II riprap for stabilization. Temporary impervious dikes are proposed to facilitate removal of the existing southern vertical abutment and restoring the northern streambank.
