WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT PEFORMANCE ANNUAL REPORT (2018-2019)
I. General Information
Person in Charge/Contact: Michael Prostinak, ORC Wastewater Treatment Plant — 910-646-3700,
NPDES Permit Number- NC0021881
II. Description of Treatment Process
Class II, 0.4 MGD Activated Sludge Wastewater Treatment with a bar screen, aeration basin,
clarifier, two settling ponds, and two digesters for Sludge that is to be used in a compost process.
III. Performance
Test Summary of the System Performance for the period July 2018—June 2019:
A lightning strike on the aerator in the 2nd Polishing Pond resulted in low Dissolved Oxygen
readings in the discharge during the last week of July'18 and the first week of August'18.
Hurricane Florence came through during the middle of September. No flow readings were
recorded and no samples were taken from the 16th and 21sY of the month. As flood waters
receded operation of the Plant returned to normal.
On the 17th of December'18 the Clarifier malfunctioned. As it turned out both bearings
and the Gear Box had to be replaced. Due to the age of the Clarifier parts were
hard to find and it was late January'19 before the Clarifier was back on line. However,
reseeding the Aeration Basin, Cleaning the Polishing Pond and adjustments that had to be made
to the treatment Process kept the Plant out of compliance through February'19.
In April'19 the motor to the aerator in Polishing Pond#2 malfunctioned and had to be replaced.
This resulted in low Dissolved Oxygen being discharged from the Plant.
