e. Driving directions: In New Bern at the intersection of S Glenburnie Rd. and Neuse Blvd. take S Glenburnie
east for 1.1 miles and turn right onto Oaks Rd. and travel approximately 0.40 of a mile and turn left onto
Glenburnie Drive and travel a half of a mile and the facility will be located at the end adjacent to the Neuse
River.

Describe receiving stream features and pertinent downstream uses: The receiving saltwater stream is
classified and used for secondary recreation to include boating, canoeing and other uses involving human
body contact, for wildlife habitat, for supporting aquatic life and propagation and for fishing to include fish
consumption. The stream/river is located in a Nutrient Sensitive Watershed.

III. EXISTING FACILITIES: MODIFICATION AND RENEWAL APPLICATIONS

Description of existing facilities: A 6.5 MGD plant with an Influent Flow Meter, both Automatic and Manual Bar
Screens, Grit Removal, Flow splitter box, 4 anerobic basins, 2 anoxic basins, 2 oxidation ditches with 2 mixers

each, 2 secondary anoxic basins, 2 reaeration basins, a Secondary splitter box leading to 2 clarifiers, a 3-cell
tertiary filter, a Flash mix tank, 2 chlorine contact chambers with liquid chlorine, Dechlorination with sodium
bisulfite, a Reaeration basin with 2 discharge basins, 2 effluent flow meters G for flow to the River & 1 for flow
to the Quarry), Diffuser, 3 aerated sludge tanks, a Filter press, a solids Pasteurization (lime & heat) vessel, a
covered sludge storage area, and 3 backup Generators used to run the plant in case of a power outage.
Current permitted flow: 6.5 MGD

for the permit writer to know (i.e., equipment condition, function, maintenance, a change in facility ownership,
etc.)

17. Pretreatment Program (POTWs only): Yes, New Bern has 5 industries it permits through their program. They are
in compliance and we have no issues with their Pretreatment Program.
