NCG530058 I11 12, 19/09/24 117 18 ICI Section D: Summary of Finding/Comments (Attach additional sheets of narrative and checklists as necessary) The inspector would like to thank Mr. Jay Robinson for his assistance with the site inspection. The inspector met with Mr. Robinson at the fish house dba Beacon One Seafood, which is located at 1 Fisherman Road, adjacent to the Lockwood Folly River in the Supply area waterfront. Based on a phone conversation with Mr. Robinson prior to the site inspection, the required annual monitoring has not been done since the last inspection in 2014. The inspector indicated to Mr. Robinson that the permit has expired and is a violation of current rules relating to discharge into surface waters. The inspector provided Mr. Robinson contact information with the NPDES staff in Raleigh (Mr. Charles Weaver) to discuss what needs to be done to be current in the permit requirement in regards to renewal and associated fees. During the site visit, the inspector was provided access into the fish house by the owner. The majority of facility is located over open water of the river, so the packing process would result in a direct discharges into surface waters. Majority of the discharge is due to pulling water directly from the surface waters into a large conveyor tank within the fish house to rinse the shrimp after the shrimp are de -headed from a large culling table. Shrimp heads are also discharged back into the surface waters below. The inspector indicated to the owner that he may want to contact other local fish houses in the vicinity such as Holden Beach Seafood with this permit requirement, and work together on getting a local certified lab to sample their facilities on the same date to assist in the compliance of the permit requirement, and potential cost saving.
