Send all suspicious email as an attachment to report.spam@nc.gov<maiIto: report.spam@nc.gov> Dear Sir or Madam, As a homeowner who lives less than a mile away from Cashiers Lake (as the crow flies), I am writing this letter to register my deep concern over the proposed plan to dredge Cashiers lake and dump the dredged material onto some "unoccupied forest land" near the lake. First I am concerned that dumping the possibly contaminated material from the lake onto "unoccupied forest land" could result in pollution of any or all of the many underground steams that supply the well water to many of Cashiers' residents and businesses - starting with those nearest the dump site. Second, I am worried that the dredging will "stir up" any contaminants from the lake bottom. Those contaminants could easily flow into the river that flows out of Cashiers Lake. I therefore would like to suggest in the strongest possible terms that, before any permits are issued regarding the dredging of Cashiers Lake, that the lake, including the material on the bottom, be stringently tested to ascertain what, if any, pollutants are present in the lake or its environs. If any contaminants are present, the dredging should take place according to the strictest EPA guidelines to prevent any pollution of the river and that and any material taken from the lake should be sent to a disposal site that is meant to handle contaminated material. IT SHOULD NOT BE JUST DUMPED INTO A BIT OF'UNOCCUPIED FOREST'. Sincerely yours, Therese K. Cowen Homeowner, Cashiers, NC
