Marshall Steam Station Retired Ash Landfill (INDUS-1804)
Marshall Landfill Vegetation Maintenance
Dear Mr. Frost:
Duke Energy would like to inform the Department that the Vegetation Maintenance work on the Retired
Ash Landfill (INDUS-1804) was completed in November 2016. Photos of the area are attached to this
submittal.
On December 22, 2015, Duke Energy submitted the Marshall Landfill Vegetation Maintenance Plan in
response to a recommendation from the Department during the 2015 landfill inspection. The
Vegetation Maintenance Plan was approved by the Division of Waste Management, Solid Waste Section
on January 13, 2016. Duke Energy began implementation of the Plan on May 11, 2016 with installation
of the erosion and sediment control measures. Tree clearing began in June 2016 and was completed in
early September 2016. Duke Energy completed the scope of work identified in Section 1.2 of the
approved plan, which included removing brush and trees up to 2-inches in diameter along with larger
trees removed for access. Final completion of the project occurred in early November 2016.
Semi-annual inspections and maintenance of the final cover will continue as directed in Section 3.1 of
the approved plan.
