Dear Mr. Nuss:
On May 22, 2015 the Division of Waste Management, Solid Waste Section (Section) received Stericycle,
Inc.’s application for a permit to operate, five (5) year renewal, at the Haw River Facility (Facility),
located in Alamance County. The application was entitled:
Treatment Facility Operations Plan, 1168 Porter Avenue, Haw River, NC 27258, Revised: May 2015.
Prepared by Stericycle, Inc. May 2015. DIN 24365.
On September 15, 2015 the Section sent the Facility the letter entitled;
Permit to Operate Application, Determination of Completeness, Permit No. 0102-INCIN-M-,
Stericycle, Inc., Alamance County, DIN 25005. Prepared by the Solid Waste Section. September
2015.
On November 12, 2015 the Section sent the Facility the letter entitled;
Permit Amendment, Five (5) Year Renewal, Technical Review, Permit No. 0102-INCIN-M-,
Stericycle, Inc., Alamance County, DIN 25259. Prepared by the Solid Waste Section. November
2015.
The Section has completed the technical review of the application and the following issues remain to be
addressed;
1. Provide a copy of the current Air Quality permit.
2. Revise the first paragraph of section 2.5 Storage of the Operations Plan to reference North Carolina
Administrative Code 15A NCAC 13B .1207 Operational Requirements for Regulated Medical Waste
Treatment Facilities, rather than 15A NCAC 13B .1206.
3. Revise section 2.5 Storage of the Operations Plan, by removing the third paragraph, the paragraph is
in bold lettering.
4. Revise the title of section 6.0 to Contingency Plan, rather than Bypass and Residual Plan
