Re: FOLLOW-UP: Temporary location of material from Waste Stream Innovation to Henderson
County Transfer Station, Permit # 4504T-TRANSFER-1998
Mr. Frost: January 27, 2017
Henderson County completed the sorting and separation of the abandoned nursery plastics left by
Waste Stream Innovations onsite at 4028 Haywood Road, Mills River, NC 28759. The material primarily
consisted of old plastic flower pots and potting soil. Using a trammel screen, Henderson County
completed the sorting of 76 loads (hauled by Carolina Mulch Plus) in December 2016 and separated the
material from potting soil. The final tonnage of sorted potting soil was 1130.20 and the final tonnage of
sorted plastic nursery plastic was 376.73. After multiple attempts to recycle the nursery plastic with
polymer recyclers across the Southeast US, the material was deemed unfit for recycling and was unable
to be reclaimed. All nursery plastic was sent to Upstate Regional Landfill.
