Alamance County Subtitle D Lined MSWLF
Permit No. 01-04
MESCO Project No. G16133.0
Dear Ms. Werner:
On behalf of Alamance County, Municipal Engineering Services Company, P.A. (MESCO) is notifying the Solid
Waste Section (SWS) that groundwater monitoring well MW-BG was installed on November 4, 2016. MW-BG is
located hydraulically upgradient of all future landfill phases which replaces MW-50R as the new background well.
The SWS pre-authorized the background well replacement on October 4, 2016 (DIN:26809).
MW-BG was installed near the planned location as shown on Figure 1. MW-BG was screened primarily in partially
weathered rock that terminated near top of bedrock at 40 feet below land surface. MW-BG well construction record
(GW-1) is attached.
The location of MW-BG is planned to be land surveyed. Beginning with the next event scheduled for February 2017
MW-BG will and previous background well MW-50R will not be sampled on a semiannual basis.
If you need any additional information please contact us at (919) 772-5393 or by email at jpfohl@mesco.com.
Sincerely,

-Very low groundwater yield. Recharge very slow.
Basically tricone refusal (older old bit). Significant downpressure but
effectively no penetration. Should be considered top of bedrock.
