Macon County’s grading contractor (Shamrock) recently damaged the MW-15. The disposition of the well is unknown this time because it’s currently covered with soil. Macon County plans to have Shamrock uncover the well this week. We understand from Mike Hofe (REIC) that MW-15 typically has 1 to 2 feet of water and is sometimes dry. We also understand that metals are the only constituents typically detected in MW-15. Mike can provide more details if requested. We need to ask SWS a few questions about the future of MW-15. 1) We don’t anticipate that we will be able to save MW-15. Once the well is uncovered, we would like SWS approval to abandon the well (in accordance with the approved WQMP, GW-30 form and submittal by BLE). 2) If SWS approves the abandonment, we would like to permanently remove MW-15 from the monitoring matrix (not replace the well). 3) If SWS requires the replacement of MW-15 we would like to install it about 10 feet deeper and perform the installation at the time the 3 new monitoring wells (MW-24, MW-25, and MW-26) are installed for Phase 3 Cell 1. It would not be cost effective for the county to install a single well. I’ve pasted an image of the map from the WQMP that shows the location of MW-15 for your reference. Thanks and please let us know your thoughts on our questions. --Andy Andrew W. Alexander, P.G., RSMBunnell-Lammons Engineering, Inc.
