Dear Mr. Little,
The Division of Waste Management – Solid Waste Section (Section) has approved Daniels
Sharpsmart, Inc.’s financial assurance closure estimate (2016 dollars) of $31,401.00 which will
allow 62,500 lbs. or 31.25 tons of medical waste materials per a five-day week. Daniels
Sharpsmart, Inc. shall establish financial assurance mechanism(s) in the amount of $31,401.00
prior to issuance of a permit to operate.

At this time, Daniels Sharpsmart, Inc. may choose to establish financial assurance as a
performance or payment bond. Once the bond is in place, a standby trust shall be established
with a financial institution. The proposed permit number 3617-MWP-2016 will be needed to
complete the bond and standby trust templates, which can be found at http://go.ncdenr.gov/fa
under the header labeled, “Mechanisms for all other Solid Waste Management Facilities:” At
no time can Daniel Sharpsmart, Inc. operate as a medical waste processing facility prior to receipt
of a Permit to Operate from the N.C. Department of Environmental Quality – Division of Waste
Management, Solid Waste Section.
On an annual basis, the closure amount shall be updated for inflation and a revised mechanism
will be due to the Section by the establish date of the bond. Schedule A from the Standby Trust
Agreement shall be updated with the revised bond amount and submitted to the Section. Should
Daniels Sharpsmart, Inc. want to modify their permit in the future by increasing their tonnage and
in doing so, their financial assurance, please contact Larry Frost at 828-296-4704.
