Landfill Gas Monitoring Report – First Quarter 2016
JOYCE Project No. 277.1601.12, Task 04
Dear Mr. Hollifield;
The purpose of this letter is to provide you with the results for the first quarter 2016 landfill gas
monitoring event at the closed Kirksey Drive Landfill. Gas probes GP-1, GP-2, GP-3, GP-4, GP-5, and
GP-6, Burke County Animal Shelter and Friends of the SPCA were monitored during the February
2016 monitoring event, methane was detected above the lower explosive limit (LEL) in gas probes GP-
3, GP-4, and GP-6. No exceedances were recorded for any of the other probes, and there were no
exceedances in either the County Animal Shelter or the Friends for Animals building. These results are
consistent with previous results.
Tables 1 and 2 summarize the methane detections and exceedances for this event, and the
attached Landfill Gas Monitoring Log presents the more detailed results. A site map showing the gas
probe locations is also attached. We have included an EMRF and will forward a copy of this report to
Jaclynne Drummond with the NCDEQ Solid Waste Section. This report should be added to the
facility’s records.
A Landfill Gas Remediation Plan for this facility was submitted on August 3, 2015 and was
approved on August 13, 2015. The next quarterly monitoring event is tentatively scheduled for
February-March 2016. If we can provide any additional information, please do not hesitate to call me at
