VAN DER VAART Secretary MICHAEL SCOTT Director June 7, 2016 Mr. George Radford Environmental Affairs Officer MCAS Cherry Point PSC Box 8006 Cherry Point, NC 28533 Subject: Notification - Coal Ash Beneficial Structural Fill Cherry Point Marine Corps Air Station – Waste Water Treatment Plant Cherry Point, NC Craven County DIN 26178 Dear Mr. Radford: The Solid Waste Section (Section) has reviewed the Structural Fill Application submitted by the United States Marine Corps on May 18, 2016 (DIN 26177). The application meets all of the requirements specified in § 130A-309.219(a)(1) of the North Carolina General Statues – Chapter 130A Article 9. This notification includes the following information as required by § 130A- 309.219(b)(1): 1. Nature, Purpose and location of the project: This project proposes the use of approximately 5,000 cubic yards of coal ash generated from the Cherry Point Central Heating Plant as structural fill for the replacement of two trickling filters at the Cherry Point Waste Water Treatment Plant. Quad sheet: Craven: 34.9131158 North Latitude; -76.9068902 West Longitude 2. Estimated start: When approved by the Section Estimated completion: August 31, 2016 3. Estimated volume: 5,000 cubic yards 4. TCLP analysis from coal ash: included in application 5. Signed statement from the owner: This is not applicable due to the waste water treatment plant being located on United States Federal Government property. 6.
