HomeMy WebLinkAboutPRLF2900_20250926_RI19 Methane Alarm Letters September 26, 2025 Current Resident 7590 Beverly Dr Fayetteville, NC 28314 RE: Methane Detector 7590 Beverly Dr Parcel: #9486390750 Site: Cumberland County/Cliffdale LF Lowell Harris Road Fayetteville, Cumberland County, NC ID# NCD980502900 Dear Property Owner: You are receiving this letter because your property (7590 Beverly Dr) is located next to the Cumberland County/Cliffdale LF (Site) which is under assessment by the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality’s Pre-Regulatory Landfill (PRLF) Program. Please refer to Figure 1 to see location of your property in relation to the Site. A PRLF is an area where municipal waste disposal occurred prior to 1983. The referenced Site operated from 1972 to 1980 on approximately 60 acres of land owned by Cumberland County. During recent assessment activities, methane was detected in the soil outside of the Site property (See attached Figure 2). The PRLF Program does NOT have evidence at this time that your home is unsafe, but additional assessment activities are in progress to determine the extent of the methane vapors beyond the landfill boundary. The additional assessment activities include the installation and sampling of soil gas vapor probes near each home surrounding the landfill property to determine the presence and concentration of methane (See attached Figure 3). In the interim while the PRLF Program works to complete the installation of soil gas vapor probes, sampling of each probe, and the time needed to analyze each sample at a laboratory, the PRLF Program is offering free installation of methane detectors and methane screening inside your home to ensure there are no detectable concentrations of methane. The methane detector is much like a smoke detector, and it will audibly alarm if the airspace inside the home exceeds unsafe levels. There is no cost to you for the methane detector or indoor screening. The cost of the 10-year battery powered methane detector and its installation is covered by the PRLF Program as part of the assessment of the Site. You will receive an additional letter in the mail regarding the date, time, and place of the information session. This session will provide you with an opportunity to ask questions and to learn about the future activities related to this site.
