Hi Bradley,
The stated reason behind methane exceedances at GMW‐10A is logical to the Solid Waste Section. The closed landfill at
Camp Lejeune may discontinue monthly monitoring of GMW‐10A. However, quarterly monitoring shall continue. If
future monitoring results indicate methane exceedances at GMW‐10 and GMW‐10A, then monthly monitoring will be
required. Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Elizabeth

Subject: CAMLEJ Closed Landfill
Good morning Elizabeth,
We continue to see a landfill gas exceedance at the closed landfill here at
2
Camp Lejeune. The reoccurring exceedance is at GMW‐10A at the closed landfill,
see attached figure for reference. GWM‐10, also shown in the attached figure,
has consistently been below the LEL leaving use to believe that the exceedance
in GMW‐10A is not due to landfill gas. GMW‐10A was placed in the edge of a
wetland which stays wet most of the year. We believe that the exceedance in
this well is due to the placement of the well being so close to a wetland and
the nature of a wetland naturally producing methane gas. Based on this
information would you advise us to only perform monthly monitoring events on
GMW‐10A when we see an exceedance at GMW‐10?
Thanks for your help!
