The fire started and was contained within the dailyworking face of the landfill. It appears that something in the waste ignited and started the fire after personnel left the site forthe day. Assess the current situation, knock the flames down with water while covering with soil tosmother the fire. Apex Fire was dispatched and directly notified Wake County personnel, Mike Proctor 92-22 The various waste streams that come to the site contain items that are known to combust on their own such aslithium polymer batteries contained in small consumer electronics. Events like this are not easily prevented howevertheir damage can be mitigated keeping the density high and maintaining a small working face. We will continue to maintain a small stockpile of soil next to the working face that can be used for fire protectionif the need arises or can be used to cover the waste as it gets up to grade. All personnel will continue to be trained in our unique fire-fighting tactics and an After Action Debreif will be conducted to see where we canimprove our efficiency. Seth C.
