PERMIT # 1111-TP DATE AND TIME OF FIRE: 02/16/2022 HOW WAS THE FIRE REPORTED AND BY WHOM: Fire Department called Shawn Ray, Facility Supervisor. LIST ACTIONS TAKEN: ksheville Fire Department put the equipment fire out. WHAT WAS THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE: @ 9:00 PM Loader caught on fire, cause unknown. When the fire department was putting out the fire, embers landed on the mulch pile beside the loader. DESCRIBE AREA, TYPE, AND AMOUNT OF WASTE INVOLVED: Less than a cubic yard of mulch that was located beside the loader. WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN DONE TO PREVENT THIS FIRE: Parked equipment away from mulch. DESCRIBE PLAN OF ACTIONS TO PREVENT FUTURE INCIDENTS: Install fire extinguishing balls on all equipment as a 24/7 preventative measure. Although news and social media reports were of a large mulch fire, the majority of the incident involved a piece of facility equipment (loader) which caught fire.
