November 1, 2021 Mark Delehant General Services Director Burke County P.O. Box 1486 Morganton, NC 28680 RE: Burke County, Kirksey Drive Landfill Permit Number 12-01 Landfill Gas Monitoring Report - Fourth Quarter of 2021 Project 2212740.00.00, Phase 04 Dear Mark: LaBella Associates (LaBella) is submitting the attached methane monitoring results for Kirksey Drive Landfill, Permit Number 12-01. The 2021 fourth quarter landfill gas monitoring event was performed on November 2, 2021. During this event, LaBella monitored gas probes GP-1, GP-2, GP- 3, GP-4, GP-5, and GP-6, the Friends for Animals (SPCA) building, and the Burke County Animal Shelter. The approximate locations of the monitoring locations are depicted in Drawingl. The monitoring data for the gas probes and buildings are summarized in the attached Landfill Gas Monitoring Data Log. Methane was detected above the lower explosive limit (LEL) in gas probes GP-3, GP-4, and GP-6, and below the LEL in the remaining probes and buildings. Due to the similarities in these detections, it is believed that there was calibration drift with the equipment used. These results are consistent with previous results. Methane detection and Lower Explosive Limit (LEL) exceedances are summarized in the attached Table 1 and Table 2. We have included a NCDEQ Environmental Monitoring Report Form (EMRF) and will forward a copy of this report to Jaclynne Drummond with the NCDEQ Solid Waste Section. A copy of this report should be maintained in the facility's records. The next quarterly monitoring event is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2021. If we can provide any additional information, please do not hesitate to call me at (336) 323-0092.
