(Golder) is submitting this letter report, which summarizes the installation of replacement monitoring wells MW-18R2 and MW-19R at the Rowan County Closed Construction and Demolition (C&D) Landfill in Woodleaf, North Carolina (NC) under solid waste permit number 80- 03. Wells MW-18R and MW-19 will remain for collection of water levels. From May 13 - 14, 2021, a Golder field representative provided oversight for the installation of downgradient groundwater monitoring wells MW-18R2 and MW-19R under the supervision of a NC licensed geologist (Rachel Kirkman). The wells were installed by South Atlantic Environmental Drilling and Construction Co. (SAEDACCO) of Fort Mill, SC, a NC licensed driller. The equipment consisted of a Geoprobe 815OLS track -mounted rig using 4.75-inch diameter (ID) inner rotosonic barrel (Sonic) and 6-inch diameter outer barrel. The replacement monitoring wells were installed in accordance with the Water Quality Monitoring Plan, dated April 12, 2021 which was approved by the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NC DEQ) in a letter dated April 13, 2021. Groundwater Monitoring Well Installation and Development The borings for both MW-18R2 and MW-19R were advanced with sonic drilling methodology to a depth of approximately 22 feet (ft) below ground surface (bgs). The monitoring wells were constructed with 2-inch schedule 40 polyvinyl -chloride (PVC) screen and riser pipe. The 0.010-inch slotted screen was installed from approximately 10 to 20 ft bgs. The filter pack consisted of Driller Service Inc. (DSI) #2 sand from 8 to 22 ft bgs. A filter pack seal was installed from 6 to 8 ft bgs and consisted of 3/8-inch bentonite chips. The remaining annular space was filled with Type I Portland cement via tremie pipe. The groundwater monitoring well was completed with a lockable 4-inch steel protective casing, a 3-foot diameter by 0.5-foot concrete apron, and four steel bollards. The boring / well construction logs are provided in Attachment A. The locations of the groundwater monitoring wells are shown on Figure 1. Approximately 326 gallons of water were removed from monitoring well MW-18R2 and approximately 99 gallons were removed from MW-19R during development. The well development forms are provided in Attachment B. After development, a dedicated bladder pump was installed into each groundwater monitoring well. The pumps were installed approximately 2 feet from the bottom of each well. Closing The newly -installed groundwater monitoring wells were surveyed by Ribelin Land Surveying, Inc. of Salisbury, North Carolina. A survey letter sealed by a NC Professional Land Surveyor is provided as Attachment C.
