PURPOSE OF AUDIT: Comprehensive NOTICE OF VIOLATION(S): None; please see AREAS OF CONCERN AND COMMENTS section below STATUS OF PAST NOTED VIOLATIONS: None applicable AREAS OF CONCERN AND COMMENTS: 1) This facility is a Vermicomposting Demonstration Project consisting of reactor -type bins of approximately five cubic yards in size. 2) Composting at this site shall be limited to the materials listed as ingredients in the application: a. Yard Waste b. Wood Shavings c. Cardboard and shredded paper d. Horse and/or cattle manure FACILITY COMPLIANCE AUDIT REPORT Division of Waste Management Solid Waste Section SWCD67-01, 052011 Page 2 of 3 e. Vegetable waste 3) No unpermitted wastes were noted during this audit. 4) Measures should be taken to ensure that all leachate is contained and managed on -site to prevent impacts to groundwater or surface waters. 5) No leachate is being generated by the compost process at this time. 6) This facility should be operated in such a way as to prevent any threat to the public health or environment. 7) Operation of this facility and all composting activities should be maintained in accordance with 15A NCAC 13B Section .1406 of the State Solid Waste Management Rules. 8) Compost generated at this facility has been tested in accordance with 15A NCAC 13B Section .1407 of the State Solid Waste Management Rules and has been approved by the Solid Waste Section for distribution to the public. 9) This facility is now operating with a multi -bin system allowing for an increase in the volume of material processed and an increase in the efficiency of the vermicomposting process. 10) The bedding depth is being maintained at—12"-14" and the ingredients layered in accordance with Solid Waste Section recommendations. The composting process appears to be taking place efficiently. 11) Leachate generation is minimal and all leachate is contained within the vermicompost bin system. 12) The Conditions for Compliance in the Solid Waste Compost Demonstration Permit #SWCD67-01 were reviewed during this audit. 13) Compost product was reviewed during this audit. 14) No violations were noted during this audit. 15) Digital photographs were taken during this facility compliance audit.
