A site location map is provided as Figure 1. Site layout map depicting monitoring well locations is provided as Figure 2. 1.0 Site Description & Background The subject Site is operated by GWSNM under Solid Waste Facility Permit Number 60-13. The landfill facility address is 15300 Holbrooks Road, Huntersville, North Carolina (Site). As shown in Figure 2, The active Infill Area consists of three landfill expansion areas: 1) Expansion Area 1— a closed C&D landfill cell on the west side of the facility; 2) Expansion Area 2—contains Phase 1, 2 and 3 C&D landfill cells on the east side of the facility; 3) Infill Expansion Area —the active expansion area located in the saddle between Expansion Areas 1 and 2. B Gri& GmMers 0 Gfeeasre Solutions The Infill Area is situated in the northern portion of the landfill property. The boundaries of the Infill Area include additional GWSNM landfill property as well as land owned by Mecklenburg County, including the David B. Waymer Flying Regional Park (a former unlined municipal solid waste landfill - Holbrooks Road Landfill) to the north and east. An unnamed tributary of Cane Creek bounds the Infill Area to the south, beyond which lies the Closed Phase I Area C&D landfill. The west and northwest boundaries include private property, a Colonial Pipeline easement, and land owned by the Town of Huntersville. In early 2020, GWRNM began excavation activities in the northwest portion of the Site for the purpose of constructing a MRF. During excavation activities, dense partially weathered rock (PWR) and bedrock was encountered above the surveyed final grade elevation of the MRF base grade. In May 2020, GWRNM contacted North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality Solid Waste Section (NCDEQ SWS) via phone to discuss plans to perform blasting activities for the purpose of removing PWR and bedrock in order to achieve the surveyed final floor grade for the MRF. In an email dated May 19, 2020, the requested that GWRNM monitor water levels in nearby monitoring wells MW-1(i) and MW-15(i) immediately before and after each round of blasting, as well as one week after blasting, to ensure that blasting activities did not affect local hydrogeologic conditions. GWRNM submitted a blasting plan to NCDEQ SWS on May 29, 2020, which was approved via email on June 1, 2020. 2.0 Methodology & Results GWRNM contracted Carolina Blasting, Inc. to perform blasting activities at the Site. Blasting was conducted as needed between June 4 and August 3 of 2020. GWRNM personnel were on - site during each blasting event to collect water level measurements and observe blasting activities. Depth -to -water measurements were collected with a decontaminated electronic water level meter from MW-l(i) and MW-15(i) relative to the surveyed top of casing of each monitoring well immediately before and immediately after each blasting event. The final round of water level measurements was conducted on August 10, 2020, which was seven days after the final blasting event conducted on August 3, 2020. A table detailing blasting dates and groundwater elevation data is provided as Table 1. 2 B Gri& GmMers 0 Gfeeaste Solutions 3.0 Conclusions Blasting activities associated with grading activities for construction of the Material Recycling Facility at the Greenway Waste Solutions at North Meck C&D Landfill were conducted between June 4 and August 3 of 2020. Water level measurements were collected from MW-1(i) and MW-15(i) immediately before and immediately after each blasting event, as well as seven days after the final blasting event, which took place on August 3, 2020. As shown in Table 1, groundwater elevations remained generally stable during blasting activities. Additionally, groundwater was not observed in the area of blasting.
