Airy Event Date(s): March 5, 2020 (Event 1 of 4) Permit Number: 86-02 Dear Mrs. Montgomery: Quarterly landfill gas (LFG) monitoring was performed at the Surry County Landfill located in Mt. Airy NC on March 5, 2020. Municipal Engineering Services Company, P.A. (MESCO) personnel monitored structures and wells for gas migration. This monitoring event was performed in accordance with the NCDEQ (formerly NCDENR) Solid Waste Section Landfall Gas Monitoring Guidance Document dated November 2010. Monitoring was performed utilizing a calibrated Envision gas analyzer and SensorCon H2S Meter. Gas levels consisting of methane, hydrogen sulfide, oxygen and carbon dioxide were recorded at seven probes (MGP-2R through MGP-8) and nine structures; results are presented on the data form. The stabilized methane concentration recorded at MGP-7 was detected above %LEL. This monitoring location is not at a property boundary. We will monitor results from subsequent events at this location. The monitoring results summary form, a drawing depicting the monitoring locations and instrument calibration certificate are attached, and will be accessible at the facility.
