NAME OF FACILITY: Dare County Transfer Station PERMIT # 28-0ST
DATE AND TIME OF FIRE: 02/01 /19 @ 12:40 pm
HOW WAS THE FIRE REPORTED AND BY WHOM:
Stacy Bowan called Doug Huff at !2:40pm to tell him that he had a fire in one of his trailers and could Doug call the Fire Dept.
LIST ACTIONS TAKEN:
Doug Huff called 911 to report fire. Sent Jonathan DeWeese to look over issue. Jonathan reported smoke but didn't see any flames--just hot spots. Fire Dept arrived
and extinguished fire.
WHAT WAS THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE:
Possibly caused by a bum barrel that was picked up in a trash truck. Fire was contained within. At this time, no issues with the Transfer Station Facility.
DESCRIBE AREA TYPE AND AMOUNT OF WASTE INVOLVED:
Area was in front of trailer, outside the building, on the lower level. Trailer had been pulled out from underneath building. No damage to any equipment or trailer.
No damage to facility.
WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN DONE TO PREVENT THIS FIRE:
Better screening of waste on the Transfer floor.
DESCRIBE PLAN OF ACTIONS TO PREVENT FUTURE INCIDENTS:
Doug Huff talked to Stacy Bowen and he needs to tell his men to screen loads better.
