District Manager, CSMG Waste Management 1850 Parkway Place, Suite 600 Marietta, GA 30067 RE: THIRD QUARTER LANDFILL GAS MONITORING PIEDMONT LANDFILL & RECYCLING CENTER JOYCE PROJECT NO. 392.1301.12, TASK 03 Dear Al: Attached to this letter is the landfill gas/methane migration monitoring report for the third quarter-annual event of 2013 at the Piedmont Landfill in Kernersville, North Carolina. Please add this report to your records. You should have received a color PDF copy via e-mail. The ten permanent gas probes, eighteen bar-hole probes, and one on-site structure were monitored on July 31, 2013. Methane was detected in GP-10 at 51.9% by volume and is an exceedence of the LEL. Methane has been historically detected in GP-10. Methane migration to GP-10 has been attributed to the closer proximity of the unlined Kernersville Landfill and has been further delineated by that facility. However, the NC DENR - Solid Waste Section (SWS) still requires notification within five business days of the exceedence, and for the site records to be maintained for inspections. There were no other exceedences of the LEL of methane in the remaining site probes measured during this monitoring event. The Next Quarterly Methane Monitoring event is currently scheduled in October. If you have any questions concerning this monitoring event, or anything else, please do not hesitate to contact me, Larry Hineline, or Steve Cowie at (336)-323-0092. The Environmental Monitoring Reporting Form (EMRF) and Monitoring Data Log of the results are attached for this third quarterly event. Methane was detected in gas probe GP-10 above the LEL on this date. Methane has been previously detected in GP-10 over the limit, but the methane has been attributed to migration from close proximity of the Kernersville Landfill that is unlined. Piedmont Landfill and Recycling Center will continue monitoring landfill gas on a quarterly basis, with the next event scheduled in October 2013. If you have any further questions, please contact me or Larry Hineline at (336) 323-0092. Thank you.
