It was also detected at monitoring well II-2 with an estimated concentration of 3.0 µg/L, which equals the 2L Standard of 3.0 µg/L. A review of the historic compliance monitoring database suggested that this was the first detection of this compound at well II-4A and the second detection at well II- 7 in over twenty years. ♦O-Toluidine was detected at compliance monitoring wells II-1 and II-6 with estimated concentrations. Currently, there is no published 2L Standard or IMAC for this compound. Resampling for verification testing was recommended for the apparent exceedances of the corresponding 2L Standard for Bis (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate and the detections of estimated concentrations of O- Toluidine. Data Collection On March 21, 2017, S&ME purged and obtained groundwater samples from compliance wells II-1, II-2, II- 4A, II-6, and II-7, utilizing the low-flow sampling methods employed at this facility. Groundwater samples 4301-II2, 4301-II4A, and 4301-II7 along with duplicate sample 4301-DUP1 obtained from well II-4A were submitted to Environmental Conservation Laboratories (ENCO), and analyzed for Appendix II constituent Bis (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate. Groundwater samples 4301-II1 and 4301-II6, along with duplicate sample 4301-DUPII obtained from well II-1, were submitted to ENCO, and analyzed for Appendix II constituent O- Toluidine. Copies of the Groundwater Sampling Field Data sheets and the associated Laboratory Analytical Report are attached. Verification Sampling Event Results White Street Landfill, Permit No. 41-03 Greensboro, North Carolina S&ME Project No. 1584-98-081C April 11, 2017 2 Analytical Results Analytical results for groundwater samples obtained reported: ♦Bis (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate was not detected above the method detection limit in samples 4301- II2, 4301-II4A, 4301-II7, 4301-DUP1 ♦O-Toluidine was not detected above the method detection limit in samples 4301-II1 and 4301-II6, along with duplicate sample 4301-DUPII Analytical results for the March 21, 2017 sampling of wells II-2, II-4A, and II-7 did not verify the apparent exceedance of the 2L Standard for Bis (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate reported for the September 2016 sampling event. It is recognized that Bis (2-ethylehexyl) Phthalate can be a common field contaminant, capable of producing false positive detections. Similarly, analytical results for the March 21, 2017 sampling of wells II-1 and II-6 did not verify the estimated concentrations of O-Toluidine reported for the September 2016 sampling event. S&ME recommends returning to Appendix II monitoring without adding Bis (2-ethlylhexyl) phthalate or O-Toluidine as a triggered Appendix II constituents.
