The landfill only accepts waste from Duke Energy’s Belews Creek Steam Station. The FGD landfill had a gross acceptance of 13,289.66 tons over the most recent 12 months which was reduced by a removal (mining gypsum for sales) of 77,108 tons, resulting in a net disposal of -63,818.34 tons. The Facility Annual Report represents net monthly disposal amounts. Mining activities were conducted with the approval of the Solid Waste Section. Since the landfill went into operation and through the most recent survey on May 7, 2017, approximately 906,578 cubic yards and 1,269,232.66 tons of waste have been disposed in the landfill. As required by G.S. 130A-309.09D(b), the County Manager for any county that generated waste for disposal to this landfill is sent a copy of the Annual Report.
