Re: Landfill Gas Corrective Action Plan Addendum
Town of Kernersville Closed and Unlined MSW Landfill
Forsyth County
Solid Waste Section Permit Number 3404-MSWLF-1985
DIN 28707
Dear Mr. Buck:
The Solid Waste Section (Section) has completed a review of the Landfill Gas Corrective Action Plan Addendum
dated December 4, 2017 (DIN 28706) and submitted on your behalf by WithersRavenel for the closed Town of
Kernersville MSW Landfill, NC Solid Waste Permit Number 3404-MSWLF-1985. The Addendum was submitted
in response to the Section’s August 4, 2017 letter (DIN 28379) and in response to continued methane gas
exceedances at the closed landfill.
The Town of Kernersville is proposing to install two additional passive landfill gas vents along the northern
boundary of the landfill. One passive vent will be installed near GW-2 and a second passive vent will be installed
near GW-1. In addition, monthly landfill gas monitoring will continue at the landfill. The Town of Kernersville
will begin installation in 2018 once the Town Council authorizes the additional costs.
Based upon the information provided within the Landfill Gas Corrective Action Plan Addendum, the Addendum
is approved as described. Please provide written documentation to the Section 30 days prior to the installation
of the two passive landfill gas vents. Also, please provide a passive vent installation summary report once
installation is completed. If you have any questions regarding this letter, please feel free to contact me by
email at jaclynne.drummond@ncdenr.gov or by phone at 828.296.4706. Thank you for your continued
cooperation with this matter.
Sincerely,
Jaclynne Drummond
