HOW WAS THE FlRE REPORTED AND BY WHOM: The Holly Springs Fire Chief called John Brown at approximately 3:15 AM Sunday (10/22/17) and reported a fire in our mulching area.
LIST ACTIONS TAKEN: After discussing various options with the fire chief it was detennined that the best course of action was to clear the areas immediately surrounding the fire of any
woody debris and create a continuous fire break around the perimeter of the fire. Additional fire breaks were put in to separate the mulch storage area from the fire
area.
WHAT WAS THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE: The fire chief believes the fire was probably started from a load of yard waste that was brought in earlier.
DESCRIBE AREA, TYPE, AND AMOUNT OF WASTE INVOLVED: The fire originated in the mulching area just to the east of Phase 2 of the C&D waste footprint. We estimate around 200-250 tons of brush and wood.
WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN DONE TO PREVENT THIS FIRE: Inspect loads of yard waste daily for smoke, coals or fire.
DESCRIBE PLAN OF ACTIONS TO PREVENT FUTURE INCIDENTS: GWS Apex will inspect loads of yard waste, pallets and any materials unloaded in the mulching periodically throughout the day for signs of smoke or fire.
