ADDITIONAL COMMENTS
1. The facility is a Scrap Tire Collection and Processing Facility for the collection and processing of scrap tires.
2. The facility is permitted to receive scrap tires from all counties in North Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, and South
Carolina.
3. This inspection was performed as part of an odor investigation in response to concerns from a citizen complaint of
odors related to possible burning of waste in the surrounding area. No evidence of burning or odors were observed
at this site.
4. Gates were provided at each entrance to prevent unauthorized access.
5. A small portion of the roof at the southeast portion of the building and some additional interior walls on the east
side of the building had been demolished since the last inspection.
6. A few scrap tires were observed on the ground adjacent to the loading dock on the north side of the building. Mr.
Bryant explained that the tires may have fallen during off-loading, but they are picked up periodically throughout
the day.
7. All processed material was observed in designated stockpiles at the time of inspection.
8. Good access was provided around majority of stockpiles with the exception of an area along the north and western
walls of the facility. Feedstock for the crumb line consisting of strippings from an aircraft tire retread operation
were observed against the north wall and stockpiled truck tires were observed against a portion of the west wall.
Proper access around stockpiles was discussed with Mr. Bryant.
9. No standing water was observed on site.
10. A new shredder had been installed adjacent to the tipping area which cuts tires down to at 3-inch rough shred and
then sends the material via conveyor to the primary shredder within the interior processing area.
