Box 219 Morganton, NC 28680 RE: Burke County, Kirksey Drive Landfill, Permit Number 12-01 Landfill Gas Monitoring Report – First Quarter 2017 JOYCE Project No. 277.1601.12, Task 04 Dear Mr. Hollifield; The purpose of this letter is to provide you with the results for the first quarter 2017 landfill gas monitoring event at the closed Kirksey Drive Landfill. Gas probes GP-1, GP-2, GP-3, GP-4, GP-5, and GP-6, the Burke County Animal Shelter, and the Friends for Animals building were monitored on February 10, 2017. Methane was detected above the lower explosive limit (LEL) in gas probes GP-3, GP-4, and GP-6. There were no detections and no exceedances in either the County Animal Shelter or the Friends for Animals building, or the remaining gas probes. These results are consistent with previous results. Tables 1 and 2 summarize the methane detections and exceedances for this event, and the attached Landfill Gas Monitoring Log presents the field monitoring data. A site map showing the gas probe locations is also attached. We have included an EMRF and will forward a copy of this report to Jaclynne Drummond with the NCDEQ Solid Waste Section. This report should be added to the facility’s records. A Landfill Gas Remediation Plan for this facility was submitted on August 3, 2015 and was approved on August 13, 2015. Four passive landfill gas vents were installed on May 18, 2016, near the locations proposed in the Remediation Plan. The next quarterly monitoring event is tentatively scheduled for June 2017.
