CCR material from the breach was contained within the footprint of future Cells 2 and 3 and properly disposed of in a timely manner. To prevent recurrence, the landfill operations team recommended installing two supplemental chimney drains in Cell 1. Attached is the chimney drain detail and approximate locations in Cell 1. Once the chimney drains are installed, record drawings with the actual locations will be submitted to the Solid Waste Section for documentation. This letter serves as a request for concurrence from the NCDEQ Division of Waste Management Solid Waste Section to install the supplemental chimney drains in Cell 1 of the Dan River Landfill. Duke Energy is committed to excellent environmental stewardship and cooperation with the Division regarding the operation, maintenance, safety, and integrity of all of its facilities. We look forward to continuing to work with you regarding environmental concerns.
