Box 68 Fontana Dam, NC 28733 PARTICIPANTS: Troy Harrison, NC Solid Waste Section Greg Corvelle, Fontana Village Resort Karen Johnson, Fontana Village Resort STATUS OF PERMIT: Active Issued: July 2, 2016 Expires: July 2, 2019 PURPOSE OF SITE VISIT: Routine Inspection STATUS OF PAST NOTED VIOLATIONS: N/A OBSERVED VIOLATIONS: N/A The item(s) listed above were observed by Section staff and require action on behalf of the facility in order to come into or maintain compliance with the Statutes, Rules, and/or other regulatory requirements applicable to this facility. Be advised that pursuant to N.C.G.S. 130A-22, an administrative penalty of up to $15,000 per day may be assessed for each violation of the Solid Waste Laws, Regulations, Conditions of a Permit, or Order under Article 9 of Chapter 130A of the N.C. General Statutes. Further, the facility and/or all responsible parties may also be subject to enforcement actions including penalties, injunction from operation of a solid waste management facility or a solid waste collection service and any such further relief as may be necessary to achieve compliance with the North Carolina Solid Waste Management Act and Rules. The Septage Detention and Treatment facility (SDTF) consisted of one buried 1000 gallon holding tank and one plastic 200 gallon floating pump tank. This facility shall only be used for storing domestic septage pumped from boats and the waste from two marine style toilets with hand washing sinks as per the permit. 2. Set-back/buffer requirements appear to have been met as per 15A NCAC 13B .0841(m) except that .0841(m)(3) has been reduced to 0 feet in accordance with .0841(q) based on engineering design and containment. 3. The 1000 gallon tank is equipped with an alarm that indicates when 700 gallons is reached. The 200 gallon tank is connected directly to the larger tank via hose that runs beneath the walkway. 4. No Trespassing signs needs to be posted at the access points to the tanks as per 15A NCAC 13B .0841(k). 5. All weather roads are maintained for access to the site. 6. The tanks appeared to be structurally sound and well maintained. 7. The area around the detention and treatment area was found to be free of spills and debris. 8. No odors observed in the area of the detention and treatment area.
