RE: Results of Landfill Gas Monitoring – November 2016
Nash County Municipal Solid Waste Landfill
Nashville, Nash County, North Carolina
Permit # 64-01
Dear Mr. Hill:
This letter presents the results of landfill gas monitoring conducted at the site
referenced above on November 7, 2016. Landfill gas was monitored using a calibrated
GEM-2000 landfill gas monitor at the on-site gas monitoring probes, as well as within
the on-site structures and within the crawl space of a private residence located on an
out parcel approximately 350 feet east of the facility. A site map showing the locations
of the landfill gas monitoring probes is attached. The results of monitoring at each of
the gas monitoring probes are summarized in the attached Landfill Gas Monitoring Data
Forms.
The landfill gas readings at GP-3S and GP-7S were greater than 100% of the lower
explosive limit (LEL). The methane readings at GP-3S and GP-7S were 56% and
32.0%, respectively. In addition, the landfill gas readings at GP-4S and GP-4Dwere
16% and 58%, respectively. The methane readings at GP-4S and GP-4D were 0.8%,
and 2.9%, respectively. The % LEL and methane readings measured at these gas
monitoring probes are indicative of soil gas conditions proximal to the buried waste.
Moreover, access to the site in the vicinity of these probes is restricted to trained landfill
personnel who are aware of these conditions. Landfill gas and methane were not
detected at any of the remaining gas monitoring probes, within the on-site structures, or
within the crawl space of the nearby private residence. The results of the November
2016 landfill gas monitoring are consistent with previous monitoring completed at the
site, indicating that landfill gas is not migrating laterally away from the buried waste.
Consequently, there does not appear to be an immediate risk associated with the
migration of landfill gas at the facility.

Notice: This form and any information attached to it are "Public Records" as defined in NC General Statute 132-1. As such,
these documents are available for inspection and examination by any person upon request (NC General Statute 132-6).
Facility Name: ______________________________________________ Permit Number: ____________________________
Date of Sampling: ___________________ NC Landfill Rule (.0500 or .1600): _____________________________________
Name and Position of Sample Collector: _________________________________________
Type and Serial Number of Gas Meter: _______________________________ Calibration Date of Gas Meter: ___________
Date and Time of Field Calibration: _____________________
Type of Field Calibration Gas (15/15 or 35/50): ____________ Expiration Date of Field Calibration Gas Canister: ________

Instructions: Under “Location or LFG Well” identify the monitoring wells or describe the location for other tests (e.g., inside
buildings). A drawing showing the location of test must be attached. Report methane readings in both % LEL and % methane
by volume. A reading in percent methane by volume can be converted to % LEL as follows: % methane by volume = %
LEL/20
If your facility has more gas monitoring locations than there is room on this form, please attach additional sheets listing the
same information as contained on this form.
