Subject: Notification FGD Landfill as Staging Area, Concurrence
Permit No. 1809-INDUS-, Duke Energy Marshall Steam Station
Catawba County, DIN 27920
Dear Ms. Hardin:
On May 31, 2017, the Division of Waste Management, Solid Waste Section (Section) received
Duke Energy’s notification entitled;
Notification FGD Landfill as Staging Area, Permit No.: 1809-INDUS, Marshall Steam Station,
Catawba County, Terrell, North Carolina 28682. Prepared by Duke Energy. DIN 27880. May
2017.
The notification concerns the use of the FGD Landfill as a temporary staging area for
construction materials. The Section has reviewed the notification and concurs that Duke Energy
may use the landfill for this purpose. The Section has noted Duke Energy’s desire to avoid
damage to the landfill cover, similarly the Section is concerned with the liner anchor trench at
the entry to the landfill as well and recommends that Duke Energy ensure a thick protective
cover be maintained.
