Dear Mrs. Martin:
On June 5, 2017, the Division of Waste Management, Solid Waste Section (Section) received
Duke Energy’s request entitled;
Dan River Landfill Cell 1 Access Road, Permit No.: 7906-INDUS, Dan River Steam Station,
Rockingham County, Eden, North Carolina 27288. Prepared by Duke Energy. DIN 27881. June
2017.
The request concerns the development of an alternative access road for Cell 1 that would cross
Cell 2. The Section has reviewed the request, approves the concept, but requires additional
information be submitted prior to giving final approval to the project. Duke Energy must develop
and submit engineer certified plans for the proposed alternative access road. The required plans
must take into account the protection of the Cell 2 liner and leachate collection systems from
traffic entering and exiting Cell 1 through Cell 2; weight, volume and impact of traffic should be
considered.
