Dear Mrs. Martin:
On May 24, 2017, the Division of Waste Management, Solid Waste Section (Section) received
Duke Energy’s revised Operations Plan (Plan) for Permit No. 7906-INDUS-2016, Duke Energy
Dan River Steam Station (Facility), entitled;
Operations Plan, Dan River Landfill, Duke Energy – Dan River Steam Station, Eden, North
Carolina, Amec Foster Wheeler Project No. 7810140065. Prepared for Duke Energy. Prepared
by Amec Foster Wheeler. May 2017. DIN 27828.
The Section has reviewed the revised Plan and hereby approves. Prior to issuing an approval to
commence operations in Cell 1 the following conditions remain to be met;
1. A revised Water Quality Monitoring Plan must be submitted to and approved by the Section.
2. Attachment 2. Condition 20. of the Permit Approval to Construct requires a pre-operation
meeting prior to commencement of operations, the Section expects all landfill equipment and
appurtenances to be in place and operational at the time of the meeting. The required meeting
is scheduled for May 30, 2017.
3. The Duke Energy must provide to the Section a list of all trained landfill operators for this
Facility, operator training is scheduled for May 30, 2017.
The document referenced above (DIN 27828) is now considered an approved document of the
Facility’s permit and will be treated as such. The next time the Facility’s permit is either
amended or modified this document will be added to the list of approved documents within the
permit. All documents referred to in this letter are available at;
