Subject:Brunswick County composting facility - capacity
Hello,
This email is to follow‐up my conversation with Jordan Lawrence concerning the compost capacity permit condition in
the Brunswick County Landfill and Compost facility permit. The permit condition specifies the total capacity of the
compost site as 50,000 cubic yards per year.
We are no longer including capacity limits in the compost permits that we now issue, and this now applies for the
Brunswick County compost site. As long as the appropriate pile sizes of composting, feedstock, mulch, and finished
product piles are maintained within the boundaries of the approved compost operation area, then the site capacity is
unlimited.
Maximum pile size for wood waste unprocessed and processed, and for finished product is 30 feet high, 50 feet wide,
unlimited length within the site boundaries defined in the site application. Compost windrows are limited to maximum
10 feet high, and 20‐25 feet wide, unlimited length within the site boundaries, as specified in the approved application
(Doc ID 25433). In addition, compost piles can be maintained onsite for more than a year.
If you have any questions please let me know.
