Larry –
On October 11, 2016, Duke Energy received concurrence from NCDEQ Solid Waste to remove eroded bottom ash from
the toe of the Dry Ash Landfill Phase II (Permit No. 1804). The work to remove the bottom ash and prevent similar
erosion issues from occurring in the future was completed the week of March 27, 2017. The attached photos show the
completed work; a more detailed submittal will be sent in at a later date.
Please let me know if you have any questions about this work or the attached photos.
Thank you,
Tyler Hardin

Permit No. 1804-INDUS-1983, Duke Power/Marshall Steam Plt
Catawba County, DIN 26832
Dear Ms. Hardin:
On October 3, 2016 the Division of Waste Management, Solid Waste Section (Section) received
Duke Energy’s request, entitled;
Request for Concurrence – Bottom Ash Removal Plan, Permit.: 1804-INDUS, Marshall Steam
Station, Catawba County, Terrell, North Carolina. Prepared by Duke Energy. October 2016. DIN
26807.
The request concerns Duke Energy’s proposal to remove bottom ash that has been eroded from the
haul road and deposited at the toe of the landfill slope at the closed industrial landfill. The Section
has reviewed the scope of the work Duke Energy has provided and concurs with its immediate
implementation at the Facility. Furthermore, all actions necessary to prevent similar erosion issues
from occurring in the future should be taken.
