Dear Ms. Van Buren:
On September 5, 2007, DENR North Carolina Brownfields Program (NCBP) received a Soil
Excavation Work Plan prepared by Shield Engineering, Inc. for the above reference brownfields property.
The work plan was verbally discussed on Monday, September 17, 2007, by and revisions submitted that
afternoon. We have been notified the site activities will commence on Monday, September 24, 2007.
The work plan is approved. As stated in the work plan, when phase two soil excavation is tentatively
scheduled, please submit a revised work plan for review and approval.

Be advised that this approval from the Brownfields Program does not waive any applicable
requirement to obtain any necessary permits, licenses or certifications for the above listed activities nor
does it waive any requirement to comply with applicable law for such activities. If you have any
